Miss Rodeo Utah 2010

It's that time of year when my sister and I go to the Miss Rodeo Utah Queen Contest. We have been doing this since I was able to climb on a horse. We love to go and live out our "I wanna be a Queen" every year and we LOVE it!
Here are this year ladies and they are so good I have a few favorites after watching the Horsemanship today. I can't wait to see their public speaking and Fashion Show!

Why I want to be Miss Rodeo Utah: “It has been said that arriving at one point is the starting point of another. My journey to Miss Rodeo Utah has been exactly that. In my travels there have been some rough spots and few detours, but I find that my arrival here is a starting point on a road of endless possibilities and countless opportunities. First, it would give me the opportunity to serve the great state of Utah and my western heritage by promoting the sport that I love. It would be my honor to serve as an ambassador of professional rodeo, as the western way of life is dear to my heart. I would delight in the opportunity to share it with others. Secondly, I would gain experiences to enrich my journey through life. I would seize the moment and expand my horizons. I would travel, meet people from all walks of life, achieve greater confidence, build character and make memories that would last a lifetime. But I need to add a second part, which is that I was raised to believe that we are put on this earth to be of service to others. Miss Rodeo Utah is more than just a young woman who is skillful atop a horse and knows reams of rodeo knowledge. She also must have a caring heart … As Miss Rodeo Utah, I would be so blessed to be able travel thousands of miles combining both my love of rodeo and my passion for service.”

She loves swing dancing and running. During the summer, she can be found quilting in her grandma’s backyard. She is constantly taking pictures of all the crazy things she does with friends and often attempts to break the world record for the number of text messages sent in one day.

Why I want to be Miss Rodeo Utah: “I spent a lot of time with my grandpa when I was younger. He let me put curlers in his hair, convinced me that John Wayne movies were more interesting than cartoons and taught me how to ride. He often tells me stories of his life. Many of the stories revolve around rodeo. The big wins or big wrecks have always been my favorites. Just as my grandpa did in his day, my cousins and I have developed our own rodeo memories. No matter if we landed in the pay out or just landed in the dirt, we can agree that every performance taught us character, values and perseverance. It is because of these experiences that I know I want to be a representative for the sport of rodeo. Anyone who has participated would agree that rodeo is so much more than a source of entertainment: Rodeo is a way of life. The world of rodeo is a culture of courage, strength and kindness. Rodeo queens play a special part in this culture. A line from a history book perfectly articulates my feelings that “the rodeo queen is a symbol of rodeo” and “a metaphor for western women.” It is no small responsibility to be a symbol, especially for a sport with such a long and prestigious heritage… She welcomes current fans and invites new ones to share the traditions of our wild sport. Her sincere smile and sparkling crown undeniably catch every little girl’s attention. Everyone is a role model for someone in their life, but I believe the people who choose to be in the spotlight have a greater responsibility to the people around them. If I am given the opportunity to act as Miss Rodeo Utah I will represent the people, sport and state I love with integrity and diligence.”

Since you have been going forever do you remember Lori Jo Wilcox? She was my tumbling coach when I was little. A couple of years ago there was also a girl that went to my highschool that won. I think her name was Angie Prevedel or something like that. I didn't know her personally though. But still, she went to Fremont. She has to be cool! :)
